Redfish are the rock stars of the flats, and for good reason. These copper-colored bruisers can grow up to 40 inches and put up a fight that'll test your drag and your biceps. They love to cruise the shallows, often with their tails sticking out of the water - a sight that'll get any angler's heart racing. Fall is prime time for reds, but we catch them year-round in Corpus.
Speckled trout, or "specs" as we call 'em, are the bread and butter of Texas inshore fishing. These spotted beauties are known for their delicate flesh and their willingness to hit topwater lures - there's nothing quite like seeing a big trout explode on your plug. They school up in the cooler months, so winter can be lights-out for trout fishing.
Southern flounder might not win any beauty contests, but they're prized for their tasty fillets. These flatfish are ambush predators, lying camouflaged on the bottom waiting for bait to swim by. We target them with live bait or jigs, working the bottom slowly. Fall is the time to catch big flounder as they migrate to the Gulf to spawn.
Black drum might be the unsung heroes of the flats. While their bigger cousins out in the surf get all the glory, these 'puppy drums' in the 14-30 inch range are a blast to catch and great eating too. They love crustaceans, so we often use shrimp or crab to entice them. You can catch drum all year, but spring is especially good when they gather to spawn.
So there you have it, folks - a half day of non-stop action on the Corpus Christi flats. Whether you're looking to bend a rod, learn some new techniques, or just enjoy a beautiful day on the water, we've got you covered. Our seasoned guides will work their tails off to make sure you have a successful and memorable trip. Don't let another season slip by without experiencing some of the best inshore fishing Texas has to offer. Give us a call or book online - the fish are waiting!

Black Drum are the heavyweight cousins of redfish, often weighing 5-30 pounds, with some monsters hitting 90 pounds. You'll spot them by their silvery-black color and distinctive "chin whiskers." These bottom-feeders love hanging around oyster beds, mudflats, and channel edges in our local bays. Spring is prime time when they school up to spawn, making some crazy croaking sounds underwater. Anglers get a kick out of their strong, dogged fights and the challenge of finding them. For eating, stick to smaller ones under 15 pounds for the best flavor. Here's a local trick: use fresh peeled shrimp or crab for bait, and fish it right on the bottom. When you feel that telltale thump, give 'em a second before setting the hook.
Redfish are the rockstars of Texas flats fishing. You can spot 'em by their copper color and trademark black dot near the tail. Most run 20-28 inches in the bays, but big bulls over 40 inches cruise the surf. Look for them tailing in shallow water, often less than 2 feet deep, around grass beds and oyster reefs. Fall is prime time when they school up to spawn. Anglers love redfish for their hard-pulling fights and excellent table fare. They'll hit just about anything when they're feeding, from live bait to artificial lures. Here's a local secret: on calm mornings, cruise the shorelines looking for their wakes or tails breaking the surface. Cast a gold spoon or topwater plug ahead of them and hold on tight!
Sea Trout, or Speckled Trout as we call 'em here, are a favorite on the Texas coast. These silvery fish with dark spots usually run 14-20 inches, though some lunkers can hit 30 inches. You'll find them in our grass flats, around oyster reefs, and near channels. They're most active at dawn and dusk, especially on moving tides. Trout fishing heats up in spring and fall when water temperatures are mild. Anglers love 'em for their aggressive strikes and tasty, flaky meat. They're not the biggest fighters, but they make up for it in numbers and action. Pro tip: try working a soft plastic under a popping cork. The noise attracts trout from a distance, and they can't resist hitting the lure as it drops.
Southern Flounder are masters of camouflage, blending into sandy or muddy bottoms. They typically range from 15-18 inches but can grow up to 33 inches. You'll find them in shallow coastal waters, bays, and estuaries. These ambush predators lie in wait for smaller fish and crustaceans. Fall is prime time for flounder fishing as they move to deeper waters to spawn. Anglers love targeting them for their delicate, white meat and the challenge of hooking these bottom-dwellers. When fishing for flounder, patience is key. Use a slow retrieve with live bait or soft plastics, feeling for that distinctive "thump" when they grab the bait. My local tip: try drifting with a Carolina rig and mullet for best results in our Corpus Christi flats.
